Just to see if there was any difference, I put a new spout in, and it still hits.

I'm gonna need some input with how I should approach the machinist. Should I confronting him and say "This is all your fault!" Or with my build being mostly aftermarket parts, nothing is "guaranteed". I don't know what to do.

He was suppose to come by today but he got busy.

I don't really think it's the machinists fault per say due to the heavy use of aftermarket parts in it. No ford engine manual is going to tell him to check for rod clearance on the factory oil jets. Should he have checked for clearance everywhere, absolutely. Kinda sounds like he didn't even turn it over on the stand before buttoning it up. Sure seems like that amount of contact would have been heard. Even if it is just a little it's still metal on metal, it'll make a sound. Maybe this type of work is why he closed up shop.

But if he blueprinted the engine he should have rolled it over with the crank in his face to check main clearance i would think...

I've never torn a 7.3 apart or assembled one, but from the pics magnum posted it looks like the squitters may be in the way to check for tolerances if he put them in before turning it over to check. Possible he put them in afterwards so they wouldn't be in the way?

When I was there the day we put the heads on, we were listening for valve contact. But the owner wasn't the one who assembled it.

There is always a chance when I wanted to save money buying individual parts, getting a machine shop that doesn't work or know these engines inside and out that something could go wrong.

It does suck but you'll know it's put together right the second time. I guess your guys didn't turn it over upside down with the pan off. The amount of contact on that squirter looks like it should have moved when the rod hit it and you would've been able to see it move.

I feel your pain, hope you can work something out!
Sucks to see a nice build, and then have some dumb s&>t make it all come back apart.

This a time when letting a professional builder do the build is worth the money.

Called Hypermax, talked to Ron, said that "yeah, need to make sure they don't hit".

Again, now I'm being told. Gonna have to modify the new jets.

I went ahead and put the spouts in a vise, and just tapped on them till I saw them move down just a little. Not excaulty precise, but all that is needed.
