Ya. First thought when I heard the video. Not near as ear shattering in the cab.

Dude I am so glad you said that. That is exactly what I said because it sounded high pitched like it was still engaged.

My buddies here at the garage in town heard the video when i was watching it and asked whos junk motor is trying to throw a rod through the side of the block... I told them that wasnt a nice thing to say.... then I told them what caliber of a build it is and their jaws dropped.

I said hopefully the starter is still engaged.

I know these are not encouraging words but I hope its the starter.

That would explain the high pitch noise of what I thought was starter or turbos and why I cannot hear one thing abnormal when just cranking by the jump wire. How would I go about fixing that? Bad starter or try some adjustment on the starter where it attaches to the rear cover.

Pull starter and check the teeth for alignment. Might be stuck open and when you crack the mounting bolts it may snap back into place where it would normally sit when not engaged. Hopefully!

Might be a stupid idea.. but can't you tell if the starter is still running? Wouldn't you be able to feel an extra vibration on the starter itself if it was still engaged? assuming you can reach it and put your hand on it when the engine is running...

Just thinking out loud..

OK. Got a lot of things to test out. I've tried eliminating as much as possible. R&Rs need no block clearance and the motor turns over nicely. Could lifters not being pumped up cause a noise like that? How about timing. Spacerc for stock flex plate was removed for the billet plate. Converter bolts were all put in loose them went all the way back around to tighten. Does not make noise when just cranking. Motor had oil pressure.

Or get some plastic tubing place it on the starter and the other end in your ear. You would tell instantly if the noise was there or elsewhere. I hope this has a good ending.
