Chris, how did you wire up your pump?? It sounds like you didnt use the factory pump wires.

I did use the factory power wire that powers the factory pump. But at the time Dennis didn't have a harness for the pump and i had to build a relayed wire harness...and tapped into the 12V switched source in the truck's harness on the frame rail that was used for the stock pump. From the relay...one wire goes to the + terminal on the battery, one goes to the - terminal on the battery, one goes to the pump and another goes the the 12v switch source on the factory pump harness on the frame rail if i remember correctly. I can look and let ya know, but Dennis now has/offers a custom harness for these pumps.

Oh that would be good. I would just buy the harness as it would no doubt make things easier and keep everything a lot cleaner.

Thanks, I'll shoot him an email. I can manage the building of the fuel system, but wiring is not my forte, any help to make it easier is just fine with me.

making the wiring harness really isn't that bad, just takes a little time...probably half hour or so if you have all the wire, relay and terminals.

Did some reading and it doesnt seem hard. So if a 10 gauge wire is recommended that will be the wire running from the battery-->relay-->Pump? And the 30 amp fuse does that go between the battery and relay or the relay and 12v "on" source? This is making my happier, seems to be a lot cheaper than buying a whole harness. Also not sure I want to take the stock pump off (at least not right away til I feel confident in my DIY system) so can I just use the stock return line?

two lines come out of the back of the heads. Each line goes into the sides of the regulator and the return line is at the bottom of the regulator.

Not to distract from the discussion on building the system as ive been reading all of it but... at what point is it usually recommended or needed to do a fuel system other than regulated return. im looking into warren 175/75% injectors and dozers regulated return but not sure if the rest would be needed or recommended just yet as i wouldnt want to throw money into the injectors mess them up.

Strokin6L was my interpretation of how to set up a harness in my last post correct?

it's been a while since i did mine...i can check and let ya know. But all wires start from the relay. One will go to the + terminal on the battery, one will go to the negative terminal on the battery, one will go to the pump and the other i believe will go to the 12v source on the main truck harness where the factory pump is.

Thanks. The one thing I want to make sure is where the fuse goes. I looked at diagrams online and some have it between the 12v power source and relay, while some between the battery and relay.

A week from friday my cab is coming off, doing my fuel system and arp's ill let you know how mine goes. The plans as of now is I have a relay wiring kit from jegs. Relay will be mounted right on the frame next to the fuel pump for accessibility, the relay's power and ground wires will be run to the circuit breaker which will be mounted right next to the battery and then the said power and ground wires will be connected directly to the terminals. The key on power and ground will come from the stock pump harness. Its very simple to do. I will look factory running all wires on the inside of the frame rail and wire loomed. Im using the stock HFCM bracket to mount the a1000 pump as well.
