I wouldn't give up on the 5r just yet since you plan on daily driving it. untill the cruise control gets worked out its not a viable option for a street truck imho.

Agreed. The box im working on is gonna take some time to get done. I don't see why the 5r's can't be daily driven. Corsilli and a host of others are doing good with it on the street. People gotta remember that you aren't gonna use 900-1000hp on the street, light to light. We went 4r as a race option. Until the boxes are built, that's all I can see it as because you give up so many factory amenities

Wonder what they changed to make them hold, seems like everyone in the 1000 hp club was having issues with shifting and breakage. Which don't get me wrong is to be expected given the power out put.
We are using some different clutches, some pump mods, some solenoid mods, and some tuning that seems to be making a difference. The most common issues that we were seeing before were converters letting go, but with some of the new converters around, that is getting better.
Trans tuning is a big thing.

Gotcha, that makes sense. Well maybe that is the better option then after all. I was almost dead set on doing the 4R100 swap since I'm on my first rebuild and it hasn't even been a year yet and its already slipping and acting goofy. Plus I have a PCS sitting here. Are you guys using Raybestos clutches now?

Mine is getting upgraded to all the latest of Tadd's. More od clutches, bigger solenoids, higher flowing pump and Tadd tunes them personally. I think it should work out good. My only failure was the converter, so far the HD one has been good.

How does that work? Tadd tuning the engine too or do you just tell Eric to tune the ECM then Tadd tunes the TCM or how does that work?

Tadd writes the trans tunes, then sends them to the tuner you are using. He then installs them into your tunes.

Might be something like sun coast does with some if their transmissions and it come with its own pertuned TCM. I could be wrong though.

Well spring 2013 is fast approaching and my build is finally about to take shape. Been waiting for a few pieces I decided to change out on the engine and they are getting close. So to pick up from where I left off last.

Well the Elite Stage 5 trans is here and sitting on the floor connected to the engine. Suncoast HD torque is chilling in the box still along with the Elite billet flex plate. Tadd's working on a solenoid update for it so hopefully that arrives as the final touches are being done.

Engine changes are not major but still important. To start with the main studs were pulled since the bores weren't in line it turns out and there's no one close that has the right boring tooling. So factory bolts are back in. Next I ordered forged pistons from Morgan at Midwest Diesel and Auto and they should be here in another week as they were being coated this past week, YAY!!! I picked up some new Tial MVR gates as well to replace the burnt Precision gates I have. Also got a good portion of my new custom turbo back exhaust built, well the hard part at least which is the down pipe. It's all 304ss and uses vbands for the joints and I'll use most of the hangers as well as a flex pipe to avoid cracking. Pulling the Elite twin fueler kit in favour of something different. ATI damper is also on the bench ready to go on.

As far as turbo upgrades go I got a big billet double ball bearing Garrett GTX5533R which is a 91mm. It's going to go on late summer as time doesn't permit this time. That info will come later.

Mechanical gauges have been added to the cab as well. Couldn't stand the dashdaq anymore as its just ugly to look at personally. Also removed and sold the RCD 4-link and put OUO ALA's on. Also bought Billet Badges for the truck too and they are being made now. Also picked up a True Trac for the rear.

Truck would be in the garage now but I got one more trip to BC to make at the end of the month then she gets parked. Put my Tacoma back on the road so that's what the wife will use. Build starts May for sure.

Here's some pics of stuff and how they are going.

It doesn't seem long ago I was just in your truck when you installed tow power turbos LOL. And then it was the max powers. And soon the 91mm. Favorite build hands down.
