It's not the rod's fault if the builder doesn't check rod side clearance. I'd be willing to bet they didn't check bearing clearances either. A true motor builder checks those things, and many many more. A parts changer simply bolts everything together and hopes it lasts long enough to get paid.

That's very true. Doesn't matter if you go to confederate or MPD. A lot of these companies do things half a** and don't care about the final product.... But sorry for the derail. OP if you decide R&R rods just make sure and have the clearance checked and you should be fine.

We're the bolts stretch checked? Or just torqued in the sequence of the instructions? Lol

He is right. Do you check clearances on the engines you build Mr cat mechanic?

Yep. When your dealing with a $5,750,000 engine... yes. Still do with a $20,000 engine. Same gauges. Crank shaft deflection. Rod deflection. Rod and main bumps. Whole 10 yards. Gear train backlash. Inside mic bores. Ect ect. Counter bore protrusion list goes on for awhile.

And yes there is a bit of discrepancy between harbor freight indicators and precision calibrated indicators. NO PLASTI-GAUGE.

Haha. I should have just answered NO! LOL

Yeah we've got two 3608s, two 3508s and a 3406 on my boat. We don't get that far into them though.

That's a fair show of horsepower. 3608 is indeed one of the best tunable engines on the market very well balanced engine. The plant I'm dedicated to full time is 72,000hp between 10 engines. 7 are 8,180+hp and 3 are 4750hp. All 16 cylinder.

Poor thread. It went AWOL!!!

Sorry to the original OP. Enjoying your build thread man!!
