    4r100 hanging shifts

Valve body was hanging up, unfortunately trans was shot as well. Now has a freshly built trans with a precision triple disk converter.

    4r100 hanging shifts

After driving it today it seems the biggest issues is the 2-3 shift. Its about a 50/50 chance it will shift into 3rd. The rest of the time it will end up going into OD. Results of scan are below. Looks like I'll be picking up a speed sensor on the way home to start.

    4r100 hanging shifts

Stock trans. Has PTO, nothing connected to it currently. Truck seems to have plenty of power, no issues once converter locks up in or. I'll pull codes tonight

    4r100 hanging shifts

I've got a 2000 f450 with 90k miles. On the way home yesterday it was shifting from 1-2 and 2-3 very late- 1/2 throttle, and wasn't shifting to the next gear until 2800 rpm or so. Once it shifted into OD the converter locked and it felt fine. At 35ish mph it wanted to stay in second at 2300 rpm...

    Good tig welder to buy?

If you have the room look for a Miller 330a/bp. They can be had with a water cooler for well under $1500, virtually indestructible machine. Spend a few hundred more on a good 20 series torch, I have a CK flex lock and its worth every penny. New machines are great but unless you are looking to do...

What welding hood do you have

Fibre metal with a AO gold/blue lens and a Jackson nexgen. Nexgen has been awesome, no problems in 7 or so years. The AO lens beats all, if you get a chance to try on you'll understand

    manual or auto

I put a lot of miles on grossing around 40k. Truck is around 270 HP at the tires, a lot of time running wot through hills, ect. Have flat killed 2 zf6s doing this. Doubt it would have ever been a problem with a lighter load simply because the truck wouldn't have seen the continuous power through...

40000 lbs gross work truck build

Trans and rear axle get hot fast at those weights, factory trans cooler doesn't cut it. I'd add an external cooler and change axle lube on a very regular basis. I added a temp gauge to mine and was seeing 250+ at those weights.

    4x4 ZF-6 to 4x2 question

The ZF6 in my 550 is shot, picked up a low mile trans from a buddy, however my truck is 2wd and the new trans is 4wd. What is involved in swapping output shafts, cover, ect.

    biggest trailer

All depends on the trailer and how much weight you can transfer to the truck and stay under gvw. My truck weighs around 11,000 with passengers, ect. Leaves me around 6500 for pin weight from the GN. Trailer is 29,999 GVW- 24k of that can be on the trailer axles, the other 6k is on the truck, so...

    ZF-6 problem

That is likely the problem then, truck regularly grosses 40k with the trailer on.

    ZF-6 problem

Not sure the best way to describe this but here it goes (assuming gears are labeled 1-6). 4th gear engagement is a bit off, like its not going in all the way, 5th is way off, and its impossible to get it in without grinding. Happened suddenly, truck popped out of 5th while under very light...

    Gear Vendors durability

I've been looking at the GV od units for my 550, they rate them for 26k gcvw, not helpful in my case. I am usually around 40k combined. Is there any other option for a od or will the GV survive?

How Hard To Replace Ball-Joints (2wd)

No need to disassemble the brakes on a 2wd. I drop the tie rod off the knuckle, disconnect brake hose and abs wire, remove upper ball joint clamp bolt, loosen lower ball joint nut until its on 2 or so threads and knock the whole assembly loose. Take it all off as a unit, press joints out and...
