well since you didnt take our advice in pulling the motor, can you at least takes pics of your procedure. Not for me or anyone else to be a dick and laugh at the fact that the crossmember is cut out, but because of shear curiousity.

call it what you want, that's what a welder is for, if this operation was that serious i wouldn't have done it, only cut the middle to drop the pan

Imo if you can't afford to fix a diesel the correct way you probably dont need to own one. I pulled a motor, resealed pan, replaced front cover, painted it and had it together in less than 10 hours. It's not hard, you just did it the most f'ed up way and i bet it becomes a nightmar in the future. You need to reconsider owning a diesel, they are a lot more expensive.

Not really, if his truck is lifted so that he can sit under it and he is a good welder then what he did is honestly ok. I dont blame him for taking the cheap easy route in his case.

Providing he welding in retaining bars behind and in front of the pan to maintain frame rail position (alignment and width) before he cut out the cross member - you are correct. The part where a majority of people fail when completing a task like this is to maintain proper frame alignment during the procedure..... nothing worse than welding it all back together and having it drive like **** because the frame rails are in very different relations to each other than they should be..... that is a problem that is hard if not impossible to correct with substantial work.
