what are you going to do for a rod bearing? if you put a new one in you have to make sure you get the right one, I think I'd try to use the old one, you are changing the rod also right?

Can't be positive, but it looks like the tappet from a fuel pump. They have been known to fall out and drop into the pan. Cheers!

do you have a fuel pump in the valley?
one of two things happen:
1. someone dropped it when they changed the fuel pump and bought another instead of fishing it out
2. or, you have been converted to electric fuel and have your fuel pump on the frame and it fell in at that time.
you didn't pull the fuel pump when you pulled the head did you?

anyone know the torque specs for the rod bolts around the crank shaft>?

Take them to 76 FTLB for the first torque sequence then go to 96 FTLB for the last torque sequence.. This is for the bolt that hold the main bearing in place that go around the crank shaft.

Ford gray.. Do not use anything else other then the ford stuff for the 7.3L. Otherwise the oil will foam (or so it has been told and tested) which in turn will mess up the way the injectors fire.. They need pure oil not air filled oil. With air filled oil the HPOP cant even do it job..

Part number for the oil is TA-31
