Raw fuel (burn eyes smoke)at idle after reinstall of the injectors after cup change. And loss of power. 270,000 miles on the truck. If I ran the sh-t out of it the smoking would go away and wome back after 5 mins or so.

man you shoulda made a thread then... I could had you check for compression in fuel...

so these were freshly resealed injectors that you put into new cups, correct???

and are you sure the smoke wasnt from just the oil that got into cylinder upon injector removal?

I made a post (smokie the psd) or something like that. Yes drove it for a few days. Was washing out the cooling system when the truck was idling for periods of time. Compression in fuel? Yes freshly sealed. New orings, new coppers, oiled up and installed. The last post is where I got told the injectors didn't seat.

Thats why I was thinking stuck nozzle. Leaking fuel and accumulating and then smoking after a few mins. Loss of power was another sign to me of bad injectors

I started up after the install and ran good. Little smoke for 5 miles and then ran like a champ then loss of power and next morning coolant flushing and raw diesel smell, smoke.

Pretty much right after to help hold the injector cups while they setup. Didn't have orings on them just put them in and pulled them after 24 hrs to put the orings on and do it right. Could of got locktite in the injector but pretty through. I even pulled two cups and re-installed new ones because I had some brake cleaner collect on the bottom, from cleaning the bores of locktite, and was worried that could of jeopardized the integrity of the sealant.

I could got a few red strings from the rags I was using in one though. The heads had a rough edge and when I was cleaning the locktite out got some strings snagged and thought I removed them all.

well you definitely did not have a seating issue... compression is far more pressure than fuel, there would have been SOME sort of blowby on copper and compromised o-ring...

on the other hand.. chances of having a sticky nozzle show its head at this point in time is rare...

but with gettin 279k out of them id say you got your moneys worth... either freak thing and yes a nozzle started sticking or some debris, wheter it be loctite or something else got in to an injector and tore it to pieces...

Did you cycle the key 6 times 30 seconds each to purge all air out of injectors before cranking? If you did not do this, and you had an injector at the end of its life, the air you forced through it coulda been the final nail in the coffin...

that injector i pictured, had only 200 miles on it before it started to hydrolock the engine... and you can see how burnt up that sucker was... so if your injectors looked nothing like that, they were seated fine...

Thats a super good idea. Will be doing that on the new ones. No I didn't. :lame: I did however crank it over with the wiring on top of the drivers valve cover disconnected though. Not good enough?

theres no reason to do that.. leave everything plugged in and just cycle 6 times, with 15 seconds of rest inbetween key ons, this will let any air rise..

this time, clean the injectors bores out. I use BG carbon cleaner on a rag and a screwdriver. make sure they are dry as a bone and spotless... lube the new o-rings, install like I said to, recheck their depth with a straight edge...

I installed Riff Raff regulated return and thought that would take care of any air that might get near the nozzles.:redspotdance::redspotdance:
