I may be wrong but I think all 71-73mm atmos have stock turbines. Once you get to 75mm+ that is when turbine size changes.

I vote single 66 as the overall "most fun" and "most hp" on stock fuel.

Say what you want they still make more power than any stock housing compounds. Driveability, towing, they take second place. Fun, no comparison.

What supporting mods do you recommend for a DD with a 66? Would a manual tranny kill the streetability/drivability?

Honestly if I didn't tow heavy every now and then and make killer money from that, I would go single and never look back. But I do, and it's making it tough for me to go that route.

I've been wondering this for quite some time, what makes the 6.4 so bad at towing when it has a (small or big) single turbo? I mean the 7.3, 6.0, and 6.7 all have singles and they perform just fine. Does this mean if Ford decided to put a single from the factory the 6.4 would have been a flop?

It's because when you go to a single on a 6.4 it's a non Vgt. If you put a big single Vgt on a 6.4 it'd be fine driving wise but wouldn't really be a gain because we already have compounds.

Okay I got it. So if you put a big VGT charger on it, would you get the same things like a big non-VGT but better driveability and towing?

Cory Anderson

You would have way better spool up but you'd be restricted with how hard it pulled up top. And big vgt's are expensive. And if you're doing it on a 6.4 it's not worth it Vgt wise because the compound setups are priced better, and a lot stronger than going to a single Vgt.

The only atmo with a larger turbine is the RCD 75. That's why you won't find anyone else listing changes because no one else does. It's expensive.

Manual trans spools well. Honestly the billet 64 option will spool better and still flow the same air. I see absolutely no issues with towing.

There is no reason. They work fine. Just compared to the stock compounds they are laggy.

A large vgt's make less power than a similarly sized non-vgt. And drive worse than factory turbos. And honestly they still don't spool that great. It would be like driving a 6.0.

Well I've had some time behind the wheel with the 75/59 from RCD. This turbo is strong. Driving around town it spools well but you are still on the 59 predominantly. On the highway is where the atmo shines. It is a little slower to lite than my 71, but its not an issue. Ive done a few WOT pulls from 60-90mph. Tow tune will not get over 1100deg, Street wont get over 1200deg, and I was loosing rp on the race file but 1400deg is the most I saw. I only watched eb/map on the street file pull and it was 51/65psi actual. Cruising at 70mph egts were steady at 625deg and dipping into the throttle the atmo would spool fairly quick. Mash the throttle and get it to kick down and the atmo spools INSTANTLY!!! I was really surprised at how quick it came back.

Due to my rp flutter I spent most of my time watching that while driving, but once I get the AD on next week I will come back with a more thorough review. As it stands right now.... Love them!!

How much power can a single 66 make ? Does anyone have 1/4 mile time for a 66 single?

I don't know, but logic would say a single outshines the compounds at the track because it's not restricted on the top end.. The single will have more lag, but that shouldn't be a factor at the track because you can spool it.. Remember no matter what turbos you do (8K worth of elite, or 2K of single) there is still only 6XX amount of fuel there stock.

Think 700 has been hit on stock fuel actually

The numbers not important, we all know dynos are scattered all over the map, it doesn't change my statement... At the track you see the benefit of a single, on the street you do not

I have elites 72mm. I'd switch to a single 66 any day if I could tow with it. I think he power would be better and fuel mileage would be better.
