I've been pondering on a single for alil while myself...

JohnP, I bet some of is has to do with where you wanna tow also (elevation)

Yeah everytime i get close to pulling the trigger on an atmo i get really stuck on atmo or a single.

I tow up and down the east coast so sea level lol. I tow generators when storms hit. So its not too often.

There is no reason you can't tow with a single.

There is no reason you can't do anything with a properly sized single.

All it take is the right adjustments and someone who understand how to drive a modified diesel truck. Obviously it will not drive like stock. Doesn't mean it's not pleasant to drive.

There are pros and cons to both setups.

I have a single 66 on a 6blow and I'm very comfortable that with the right converter I could tow what ever the *** I wanted too. The pros out weigh the cons by a long shot. As long as you don't snuff it out like a tard it will spool.

Even with a manual tranny?

Also, pretty sure this is still considered on topic, but do you offer any compound kit that doesn't require ANY fab with a BB atmo....same something around the HP size (good for about 750-800 RWHP that lights quick and doesn't run real hot with 50% nozzles)?

Why not? With the correct sized turbo? Over the road trucks tow 80k with a manual trans?

Guy it's not the trans or single vs vgt vs compounds.

It all in sizing one for what you need. If you want it all the you'll have to go with compounds. But there is no reason a properly sized single for the application will tow absolutely fine. He'll I towed 23k# through the Appalachian's with a cast 66 on stock fuel in a 6.7 (which everyone though was too big of a turbo) and my EGT's never got over 1100. Different than a 6.4? Yes, a 6.4 you can't lock out gears with the trans and manual shift and all the other cool stuff, plus the 3.97-1 first gear makes spooling from a stop a breeze. The 6.4's do not benefit from a trans like the 6r. But with everything right there is no reason why they don't perform just fine. If you wanna tow you just need to stay a little smaller. It may limit you a little on the top end but that's the price you pay with a single.

I think everyone on the 6.4 forums has forgotten that all previous and all current turbos offered by all three players are single turbos. We were spoiled with the compounds on the 6.4. That's it!

There are a couple of differences IMO....First, even on stock fuel we have enough fueld make 650-700 so you will need enough air to cover it, yet you don't want to get so big in turbo that you can't spool it. The factory singles only have to provide enough air for about 400 HP. Also, pertaining to the Ford 6.7, Cummins, or Dmax, their heads flow more than 6.4s so I assume we suffer on spool up compared to them.

I am going to enjoy my truck as is for a while, but I am not ruling out any turbo setup for the future. I have never ridden in a single 6.4 and I know spool up is going to be one of the possible draw backs to a single. Most times it is recommended to go with a higher stall speed TC with a single, but since I don't have any slipping at lower RPMs, I wasn't sure if you could make a manual tranny a good street truck with a single on a 6.4. Thanks for the insight.

As with anything, you have a manual so you can hold gears higher and you have the ultimate control of how it's shifts and spools/stays spooled.

I think for someone who tows heavy on stock fuel, a billet 362 or a nice gtx ball bearing would be a hot ticket.

That seems more my language....I like that idea on the BB.....couple of buddies with Dmaxs converted to a BB when factory ch#t to bed and the spool up was quicker with lower EGTs...plus you can't beat a BB for the sound.
