I would lean more towards what bft is talking about. It makes sense if you think about it not doing it over night when you crank up in the morning. The oil has gotten thick and not moving, but after you drive it and the oil thins down from getting up to temp and it slowly passes by the seals the next time you crank it some has seaped through and is warm so that when you crank it, its warm enough to burn off quick and your smoke comes from that

How do I fix that do I have to pull the heads?

If you don't smell oil, I think this is unlikely...

I could smell oil in my exhaust and I didn't have the puff you had. To burn that much oil on start up, the smell of oil would be obvious.

I'm not trying to steer you in the wrong direction but, your truck isn't burning oil, it doesn't smell of oil, and it's running fine. I really think it has more to do with ambient temp and humidity then anything else. Hell my truck can get a puff out of the tail pipe when it gets cold or its a chilly high humidity day. I think everyone is way over thinking this.

Yea I'm gonna rule out moisture b4 going any farther in it.

Drove my truck back from Houston after getting studded, and on my way home it kept blowing a boot.. every time I stopped to tighten it, drops of water sipped out.. wonder if mayb my intercooler still has some moisture inside. Blows a puff of smoke when I turn it. Doesn't smell like oil or fuel.

I aint figuring out how people are seeing this after studs. Maybe its there and you didnt notice until you was a little paranoid the first time after getting studded and notice it then or what

Random I know but are you sure the drain and everything is perfect when the chargers were re-installed?

If you have a valve seal problem you will smell oil burning and it should go away within seconds.

That picture to me looked like soot mixed with condensation that found it's way out the clamp.

You might want to take a video but I don't think you need to be worried yet.

I know mikes did that and the end result was pushed out seals

i think i have damaged a ***king motor in every way possible at this point. that being said, smell tells the tale, period, although damn that does sure look like oil smoke. one time when i had turbo seal back pressure issues it would do that every time and i had oil in the down pipe. easy to see .

:whs:

I get that same splatter out of the tip of my exhaust. It's gotten about 39* (I know not cold but try living near the coast at that temp) and I've gotten only when it gets colder and wet

I am just going to add to this thread. 15 degree cold start this morning. Its been running for a couple minutes and still smoking. Has like a blue haze and doesnt smell like oil but kinda smells like fuel. Did not notice this before studs and egr delete. I drove a bit and it still smoked but stopped after truck warmed up some. Builds boost fine. No abnormal noises besides some valvetrain chatter I believe it to be. This look like an injector issue? Clears up once truck warms up some.
