Fail safe is 4th gear if trans has no power to it this is what will happen. You can check for 12v at pin 12 red with yellow tracer. Solenoid connector in known to get corroded as well.

Contamination in the add on cooler can cause all sorts of problems it's never good to have metal or clutch going through a fresh trans. It also could be misaligned tcc bushing in the pump. Did you try stock tunes?

Trust me I have seen it before where a wire that is highly corroded have good resistance but cannot carry the amperage to activate the solenoid especially on a linear solenoid like these are it takes a fair amount of amperage compared to your basic on/off type solenoid. An electrical related...
