nothing is drop in when youre looking to do this kind of custom... Ditch the idea of the airdog... from my experiences these standalone pumps are a waste

completely remove the stock fuel supply line

fuel sump
1/2" (-8an) line from the sump to
custom CAT/Baldwin fuel filters/water separator
- (2) Baldwin FB1311 Fuel Filter Bases
- (1) Cat Filter 1R-0750
- (1) Baldwin water/sep BF1212
1/2" (-8an) line from filter to an aeromotive fuel pump
- Aeromotive a1000 regular or marine grade
1/2" (-8an) line from aeromotive pump up to the engine bay to a y block
(2) 3/8" (-6an) lines to the front or back of the heads
(2) 3/8" (-6an) lines from the front or back of the heads to each port on the regulator
(1) return line off the regulator to the stock return line using a an to hardline adapter (this is sufficient)

let me know if there are any questions you may have

How good is it for the pump to run the separator and a 2mic filter pre pump? I ask because im about to add both and do not have much room post pump where i would like to mount the 2mic filter. Ideally i would like to run TANK----FUEL/WATER SEP--------PUMP(MARINE A1000)----2MIC FILTER----HEAD.

I dont think it will be a problem at all, because those two filters have a high flow rate... Ill only be running a CAT filter instead of the baldwin in addition, I changed my mind on my setup. The cat filter displaces water to the bottom of the filter so ill just change it every oil change (every 5k) instead of every other, we have been doing this on our duramax's for 20k and no issues yet.

Sounds like ill be running both pre pump then. And as to running the CAT filter without anything else in front of it, dont you think that the 2mic is going to clog up pretty fast?

Edit- just saw where you said change it every 5k miles.

did he explain or tell you why they keep burning up?? I know plenty of people running them with zero issues. Probably due to improper pre pump filtration and improper wiring jobs.

fx f2 fifty on our lb7 work truck we lost track of mileage and changed it at 10k and it was pretty full of crap but it was still useable. were stringent where we get our fuel from so im confident that it should be perfectly fine!

He would be the first guy that I have heard of having problems with the A1000 fuel pumps. Did he say why they were failing??

I hear of A LOT of people having problems with FASS and AD but not Aeromotive or Fuelab pumps.

Unfortunately he did not. I personally like the a1000 idea. Still the a1000 success rate over the AD2 would get my business over the AD2

i've heard of some having issues with the A1000 pump. I have a 3 micron fuel filter on my FASS system along with the water seperator...no problems.

I run an a1000 on my daily driver every day for the last year and a half with no issue with no lift pump. Stock filter in the fuel bowl. Water fuel separator/10 micron filter.
Also run an a1000 on the race truck pulling through a 1" in and out 10 micron water stop filter and it is Holding fine thus far. I do know aeromotive had an internal parts upgrade for older pumps. I actually bought the one on my dd used, still no issues. Have several customers running them with no issues as well. I would recommend at least 10 gauge wire.

I've heard of a few people having a1000 issues merely because they didnt run fuel filters pre pump, or they used too high of a micron rating as the pre pump filter. Another instance is if they havent been properly wired or they run them without a regulator or with a regulator set too high. The a1000 will run at 100psi consistently without a regulator. Ill be setting my regulated return regulator to 55 psi with a 2 micron filter before it at first and see how it does. The lower the pressure the longer they last.

You wouldn't believe how much fuel returns to the tank even at 65 psi with an a1000. It is truly a race pump.

I have been looking at the fuelab pump that Chris has and really like some of the features it has over the A1000 and it is lower in price than the aeromotive pump as well. I know I really like my fuelab regulator as well.

This is what i used when i built my relayed wire harness for my fuelab pump which is similar to the A1000. I would not use anything smaller than 10ga wire.

Anyone think it could be that the fuel is getting too hot because too much fuel is getting sent back to the tank so the temperature just keeps going up and the pump gets too hot and dies?? I have heard that a fuel cooler in the return line is a necessity with these race pumps.

I think of it as a benefit to heat the fuel to a certain extent, especially in cold driving conditions. Also fuel will obviously be less circulated while being driven. Haven't had any problems with the a1000 so I can't say Why the pumps you speak of failed.

Chris, how did you wire up your pump?? It sounds like you didnt use the factory pump wires.
